WOW, this "on" article brings the anger out of me!

"In Iowa, however, the prevailing attitude among farmers, who clearly have huge economic interests at stake, is that animal activists are dangerous to their industry. It couldn’t be more clear that some who raise animals commercially for slaughter, don’t care about the animals at all in terms of them deserving fair treatment. They exist only as what they can be exchanged for in terms of dollars."

That can be said about parents/guardians who raise children for prostitution, it all about the $!

People have lost ALL of their HUMANITY!

Loudest PURR in the World

"ALL PICTURES AND LINKS ARE SHARED FROM MY EMAIL FROM CARE2"

Smokey the cat is thought to have the loudest purr in the world, which revs up as loud as a lawnmower. Most cats purr at about 25 decibels, but Smokey’s purring averages 80 decibels, and often goes up to 92–that’s equivalent to the noise of a lawnmower or hair dryer!

And while we’re at it, do you know why cats purr? Read Why do Cats Purr? after the video.

There may be as few as 40 Javan rhinos left in the wild — and in the world as none currently are living in captivity. (They may be the rarest large mammals on the planet.) Recently a motion-activated video camera in an Indonesian national park caught two very young Javan rhinos with their mothers on tape. Not only are they extremely rare, they also only give birth about once every four or five years.

“The videos are great news for Javan rhinos and prove that they are breeding in Ujung Kulon. There are no Javan rhinos in captivity — if we lose the population in the wild, we’ve lost them all,” said Dr. Eric Dinerstein, chief scientist at WWF-US. (Source: WWF)

(If you want to support Javan rhino conservation, you can donate to the World Wildlife Fund.)

Javan rhinos used to be widespread in various parts of Asia, but poaching decreased their numbers drastically. Traditional Chinese “medicine” has driven the price of rhino horn to as much as $30,000 per kilogram even though scientifically it has been proven to have no medicinal significance. The main ingredient of rhino horn is simply keratin, the same protein found in human fingernails so consuming rhino horn powder would have the same effect as eating one’s own fingernails. The superstitious false belief in rhino horn has fueled the poaching of rhinos for 2,000 years.

The news is especially good because Javan rhinos are solitary and prefer to stay far from humans, which makes it very difficult to study them. Javan rhinos live about 30-45 years in the wild, and are herbivores. Any Javan rhinos that were kept in captivity did not do well, dying at about half their lifespan in the wild. They have no known predators other than humans.

Another large mammal on Java already went extinct — the Javan tiger. They were all shot, and their habitat was converted for agriculture. The situation for the Javan rhinos is dire, but at least there are conservationists trying to protect them. They are still at risk from poachers who want to cash them in for a quick sale on the black market.

Paramount Pictures and Rango

The marketing geniuses at Paramount Pictures have partnered with PetSmart to offer moviegoers a $10 discount on any reptile at PetSmart stores if they present their ticket stubs from Rango, a film primarily marketed to children. Rango, an animated movie that features no live animals, tells the story of a chameleon who finds himself after he is released from his boring life in a terrarium. It's sad that Paramount doesn't see the irony in turning around and encouraging moviegoers to buy captive reptiles!

An estimated 90 percent of all wild-caught reptiles die within the first year of captivity. It might be easy for moviegoers to impulsively purchase these animals as "pets," but very few have the knowledge (or equipment) required to meet the animals' specialized needs or the inclination to commit to many years of care.

Because you are a dedicated animal lover who has spoken out against animal cruelty before, we knew that you would want to be the first to hear about this horrible promotion. We also knew that we could count on you to make your voice heard in behalf of these reptiles!

Please click here to contact Paramount Pictures today and politely urge the company to end the Rango reptile promotion!

Sincerely,

"ALL PICTURES AND LINKS ARE SHARED FROM MY EMAIL FROM PETCENTRIC"

Capital One

Capital One is airing a new commercial that features a chimpanzee "actor," despite receiving information from PETA about the abuse and neglect endured by chimpanzees and other great apes who are used in advertising. These highly intelligent and sensitive animals are forcibly removed from their mothers shortly after birth, and they are subjected to violent, fear-based training methods. By the time chimpanzees reach approximately 8 years of age, they are too strong to be safely handled and are often discarded at seedy roadside zoos or relegated to cramped cages on training compounds.

"ALL PICTURES AND LINKS ARE SHARED FROM MY EMAIL FROM PETA"

After meeting with PETA and learning about the cruelty associated with using apes in advertising, many top companies and advertising agencies have pledged not to use great apes in their advertisements. Please help convince Capital One to follow the lead of these progressive companies. Please take a moment to contact Capital One's CEO and ask him to make the compassionate decision to pull the company's offensive commercial featuring a chimpanzee.

Please forward this message to friends, family members, and coworkers. Thank you for everything that you do to help animals.

Sincerely,

Silent Victims

"ALL PICTURES AND LINKS ARE SHARED FROM MY EMAIL FROM ASPCA"

Manhattan, NY—ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Agents arrive at the scene and arrest Richard Smith, 24, on multiple charges related to domestic violence. Smith is accused of assaulting his 21-year-old girlfriend and severely beating their two-year-old dog. Multiple attacks had allegedly occurred over the past few months.

Tragically, one of the reasons domestic violence victims delay seeking help is out of fear that their abuser will harm their beloved companion animal—and too often they are right. Studies show that 85% of women who enter domestic violence shelters report incidents of pet abuse in the home.

"Animals are often the silent victims of domestic violence," says Joe Pentangelo, Assistant Director, ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement. "As we have seen too often, the brutality associated with domestic violence affects other members of the household, including pets."

The ASPCA works tirelessly to educate the public on the link between animal cruelty and domestic violence—and provide aid to animal victims. But there is a long road ahead. Please donate today and lend a hand to those who need it most—the millions of victims with nowhere left to turn.
