Dear Friend, Petey's owner pointed a rifle at Petey's head and was ready to pull the trigger. In a matter of seconds, Petey-the-dog would be dead... ... if not for a pint-sized hero. The owner's 8 year-old son saw what his Dad was about to do and ran in between the shot and Petey - his Dad's bullet piercing his leg instead of Petey's head. This little boy took a bullet for his best friend. I shouldn't be surprised at how cruel humans can be to innocent animals. But I still am. And I shouldn't be surprised at how far humans will go to save their four-legged best friends. But this 8 year-old boy has me in awe. And it's in honor of this young hero and the dog he loves so much that I ask you to donate to our mission right now - that I ask YOU to be a hero for an innocent dog or cat. Let me tell you the rest of Petey's story. Thank God, the son has recovered and also, thank God, the local animal shelter took Petey from this unspeakably cruel owner. Petey was taken-in by Animal House Rescue in Fort Collins. Rescue groups like this are filled with people whose life's passion is saving abandoned, abused animals. They are heroes. Look at what they've done for Petey: As you'd expect, Petey was terrified of everyone when he arrived at Animal House. He hid under his bed in fear. Now Petey has spent weeks in "therapy" with specially trained Animal House volunteers. But Petey desperately needs more help. He needs more time at Animal House with his behavioral trainers until he finds his forever home. These shelters save the lives of innocent animals. And you do, too, when you give to support them through SPCA International. Please honor that little boy's act of love and courage. Please make sure Petey continues to get the love and care he deserves. Please be a hero and give as generously as you can today. Sincerely, JD Winston Executive Director SPCA International P.S. The only reason Petey isn't dead today is because a little boy took a bullet for him. Will you, in honor of this young hero, make a donation so that we can continue to support groups who are working to keep cats and dogs like Petey alive?
